The Glenwood Mutual Assistance Group (GMAG) was formed in November 2020. We use the “official” boundaries of Glenwood, with a few minor adjustments to make it easier to define:
• North – Mud Lake Road / South Farm Road
• South – West Plymouth Avenue
• East – US-17 / North Spring Garden Avenue
• West – Lake Woodruff Wildlife Refuge
That’s about 5 miles long by 2 miles wide.

Organization

For planning purposes, we use a Clan/Tribe structure, where a clan is defined as those persons living on a single piece of property under the authority of the property owner, and a tribe is a collection of two or more clans that have established some level of cooperative relationship. GMAG is, essentially, a tribe. We meet together every two weeks with an agenda focused on preparedness on multiple levels. Different people or clans are tasked with various group needs such as communications and intelligence gathering. We strive to not only make sure that our individual clans/families are prepared, but also that Glenwood, as a neighborhood, remains as safe as possible.

❏ GMAG is NOT any sort of “sharing” or “pooling of resources” group. Everyone is responsible for their own clan. Private property rights are a top priority.
❏ GMAG is NOT a “militia” group, though security is a high priority and a regular topic of planning and discussion.
❏ GMAG is NOT a political group, though those involved are very like-minded. That’s just not our purpose here.
❏ GMAG is made up of people who simply want to be left alone to live the kind of quiet, peaceful life that Glenwood is known for, regardless of what happens in the world around us.

Communications

The GMAG CommPlan provides a system for communications on two levels:
➊ Local neighborhood and Glenwood area
➋ Ham radio nets covering the southeastern region, North America, and into Western Europe. We regularly participate in HF radio nets.

Glenwood / Neighborhood Comms

The GMAG CommPlan includes several modes of communications, with the first being commonly available, no-license radios. The 3-3-3 Radio Plan is a widely used system for communications when conventional means are no longer available. The purpose of the 3-3-3 plan is to connect very localized neighborhoods. There are other parts of the GMAG Communications Plan that keep us connected with the rest of the country, as well as parts of Western Europe.

ICE – In Case of Emergency

The 3-3-3 Radio Plan is a well-established plan among the preparedness community and will be used by GMAG. Here’s how the 3-3-3 Radio Plan works:
• Turn on your radio
• Every 3 hours
• For at least 3 minutes
• Channel 3

Also look for notices posted in key locations – mostly along Glenwood Road or Grand Ave.

Frequencies

CB Channel 3 (AM) – CB radios are inexpensive and require no license.
FRS Channel 3 – Use this to connect with your neighbors.
146.420 Ham radio 2-meters – Most radio scanners will receive this.

SitReps (Situation Reports)

During the 6:00 pm time slot of the 3-3-3 Radio Plan, we will be passing along (and gathering) information about the local situation, as well as what we learn about the rest of the world through ham radio nets and shortwave broadcasts.
